With new rivals in Loughborough Lightning for Netball London Live 2018, there is a sense of unfamiliarity surround this year’s showpiece event.

But for Storm’s Kiwi defender Jo Trip, there will be a few familiar faces on court.

Trip spent two successful seasons with Lightning before joining Storm for the 2018 season.

On the decision to swap Loughborough for Surrey, Trip spoke of how welcomed she felt by her Storm teammates.

“The girls are incredible, they’ve welcomed me with open arms and we get along really well.

“For me the changes have been good, it’s a challenge, that’s a thing in my career that I love doing, consistently challenging myself.”

Trip was part of the Lightning side that topped the Vitality Netball Superleague in 2017 and spoke fondly of her time in the midlands.

“I respect all the girls at Loughborough, I respect all the coaches.

“The girls are still really good friends.”

However as soon as Trip and Storm enter the court at the Copper Box Arena, friendships will be put aside.

“I really enjoyed my time there but obviously I’m playing for a different team now.

“My aim whenever I step out on court is to win.”

It was an incredibly close game when Storm and Lightning faced off earlier this season.

Lightning came out winners in a dramatic game back in March but Trip believes they gave them a fright.

“We took a game to them and I think they were in a little bit of shock at what we took to them.

“They ended up winning by two but I think we earned a lot of respect in that game.”

You can watch Trip and her Storm teammates take on Loughborough Lightning on Saturday 23 June at the Copper Box Arena.
